The Care CircleIn Harmony With Catherine

Let's talk

The conversations nobody wants to start

Their dignity comes first. These are guides, not scripts to read aloud word for word.

Write me a script

Tell me what the conversation is about and who it is with. I'll write something you can rehearse, and keep it on this device only.

This is a guide, not advice. For medical, legal or money questions, speak to a qualified professional.

Before you answer

Staying calm when everything in you wants to snap

Most of this happens with no witnesses — behind closed doors, where you hold it alone. These are small things that work in the moment, not theories.

  • Name it silently: this is the illness or the fear talking, not them.
  • Breathe out slowly before you speak — one long exhale buys you back.
  • Answer the feeling underneath, not the words on top.
  • Lower your voice one notch below theirs, and slow down.
  • Leave the room on purpose if you need to: “I'm just putting the kettle on.”
  • Afterwards, tell one person what happened. Carried alone it curdles; shared, it shrinks.

Calm is a practice, not a personality. Some days you will snap — and the relationship is bigger than one bad moment.

It is okay for a conversation to end unfinished. Most of these take more than one attempt.
